Retinitis pigmentosa, also known as RP
A degenerative disease of the eye marked by night blindness, pigmentary degeneration of the retina, constriction of the visual field, gradual loss of sight. In the September 1929 issue of Better Eyesight Magazine, Dr Bates wrote that « the treatment which improved the vision of the patient [suffering from RP] was palming, swinging, and reading very fine print….. This patient gave evidence that RP is caused by a strain or an effort to see. » In a previous article (1921), another « patient was treated almost entirely by means of her imagination. »
Clara Hackett, a Bates teacher whose book “Relax and See” was published in 1955, titled her first chapter: the Case for Hope! There, she listed the statistics which she kept track of over her teaching years. She wrote: « 57 with RP have had lessons. Of these, only 2 achieved normal sight (20/20); however, 38 had their field of vision and acuity helped appreciably even to the extent of driving a car again; 17 had no lasting benefit. » For her, « relaxation, mobility, centralization, good fusion are of cardinal importance. » So is imagination.
Esther (« Visions of Joy ») mentions that RP is due to a lack of the following nutrients: A-B complex, C EFAs, CoQ10, cystein, taurin, lutein, xeaxanthin and zinc.
